A project of Lions Clubs in Western Australia.
PRESS RELEASE. 29.03.2014.
In conjunction with Children’s Operations, a fund raising organisation, the Lions Cancer Institute has been approaching the WA Business Community for sponsorship. As part of the fund raising, A Children’s Big Day Out; A Movie Day, was organised.
Our major sponsor, Woolworths, had their local manager on hand to help us set up in the morning. We are also very grateful to Joanne Blackwell [The Easter Bunny] and her husband Chris for the time and effort they put in to distributing the Easter Eggs to all the children. Thanks also go to the Board Members and Institute friends for the time they put in to make the day a success.
Over 400 people took advantage of free tickets and arrived at the Reading Cinemas complex in Belmont to see a choice of “Lego The Movie” a pre-release move shown for the first time in WA, or “Mr Peabody & Sherman” a newly released movie in WA.
The main group of people invited were disadvantage children, with their parents or carers.
Easter Bunny was on hand to distribute Easter Eggs and everyone was given free refreshments when they went into the movies.
The balance of the funds are being used to help keep the two Cancer Screening units on the road, with recent screenings being conducted during Melanoma Week in Perth, Narrogin Relay For Life and the Melanoma Walk in Bunbury.
Our next scheduled screening is at The Classic Car Show in Whiteman Park on the 27th April 2014. Then off to Geraldton on the 25th May, followed by Moora on the 27th May.
